‘Sweetwater
Mill’
Sweetwater Creek State Park near Lithia Springs,
GA is home to the ruins of the mill first operated by Sweetwater Manufacturing
Company and later the New Manchester Manufacturing Company. The mill became an
important supplier to the armies of the Confederacy supplying needed fabric and
yarn for uniforms, tents, and many other items. When Union forces advanced on
Atlanta the mill was a special target of General Sherman and was destroyed by
fire on July 9, 1864.
