BIOGRAPHY

Born on Cape Cod, living in Atlanta for the past 25 years, Russ has renewed his earliest creative passion of photography. His photography career started doing darkroom work with 120 B&W film. Graduating to a 35 mm SLR opened new paths of creativity. He transitioned from a teenager's version of art, to professional work shooting weddings, and serious efforts at isolating moments in nature. His creative energies drifted away from photography for a number of years as he applied his Mechanical Engineering degree and MBA to designing and constructing some of the world’s most powerful and sophisticated machines. He was awarded several patents and published papers in several fields of his expertise. But in this time, the inner vision of photos and images that he might capture and create only lie dormant, not forgotten.

In 1999 a trip to Ireland proved to be a turning point and the path back to serious photography. A place of terrible beauty Ireland can be a photographer’s dream location. But a lot of equipment failed and many images failed too. On return home out of frustration he sold all of his equipment and started anew. With this came a new, but old spirit toward taking photographs, and a return to shooting photographs professionally.

 Russ’ work now leads him from Florida to Oregon, California to Maine. He has spent many hours and days hiking the woods and mountains in Georgia and the Carolinas photographing waterfalls. The deserts of the American West and rocky cliffs of the Pacific coast have been exciting and rewarding challenges to bring home their unique beauty. He has focused on landscape photography but his creative eye has followed other areas of photography too. He now sells his work through the internet, commission work, and exhibiting at fine arts festivals. He has been recognized with multiple awards at these festivals.
